Rimage Rumor Mill: New Products, Lower Prices Expected Soon
The great thing about the world of disc production that there’s never a dull moment! During the past several months, nearly every major company in the industry has revamped their product line by introducing amazing new equipment and retiring their old models. This ongoing suspense-drama has had more surprises and plot twists than a dime store novel!
The CDROM2GO blog has covered all of the major announcements including the new Bravo Xi line from Primera Technology, the end of the Bravo II, the all-new Microboards G3 printer and publisher, and the release of Epson’s DiscProducer Autoprinter.
The rumor mill is once again buzzing with excitement over some possible big changes at Rimage. In the next couple of weeks, it is expected that the Rimage Corporation will announce a major price drop on its high-end 6100, 7100, and 8100 publisher units without embedded computers, according to industry sources.
Additionally, Rimage is rumored to have several new products ready for market in the near future. These include the Rimage Everest 400 thermal disc printer, the Rimage 3400 publisher, and the Rimage 5400N publisher.
Like the Everest 600 printer, the Everest 400 will be a thermal CD/DVD printer but with a more affordable price. This smaller and lighter printer may be available with a 500-disc transfer roll, compared to the 1,000 disc roll of the Everest 600.
This move would give Rimage an advantage to customers who want the high quality of a thermal print but who do not have the volume to justify a large investment in an Everest 600 printer.
The Everest 400 will be the cornerstone of two new disc publishers: the Rimage 3400 and the 5400N. It is expected that these two units will be available in as many as three different configurations each.
Sources say that every Rimage 3400 publisher will include an embedded PC and the user’s choice of recording drives. Pick from two CD/DVD burners, two Blu-ray burners, or one CD/DVD and one Blu-ray drive for maximum versatility!
The Rimage 5400N will likely be available with the same drive combinations and embedded PC, plus additional network capabilities. Rimage units are popular in corporations, hospitals, and other large organizations where network capabilities are essential to data storage and security.
This revamped product line may have come about as the result of a major change in management. Late last year, Rimage’s Board of Directors appointed Sherman L. Black as the new Chief Executive Officer of Rimage Corporation effective January 1st, 2010.
Black joined the company in 2009 following a 20 year career with Seagate Technology, which is a major player in the hard drive and data storage industry. Rimage’s former CEO Bernard Aldrich, who held the position since 1996, will be retained as a consultant.
A formal announcement from Rimage regarding its product lineup is expected within the next couple of weeks. We will keep you posted as soon as more information is available.
